The Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad has a suitor, and a sale might be announced later this month.
“Negotiations are taking place. Nothing is final,” said Meilee Anderson, railroad director of sales and marketing, on Tuesday.
“It is not a done deal,” she said, of talks between MRSR Executive Director Wayne Rankin and American Heritage Railways.
American Heritage operates the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Colorado and the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in North Carolina.
The Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad runs between Elbe, in Pierce County, and Mineral, in Lewis County. Summer is the high season, but special events are scheduled during Easter, Christmas and other holiday seasons.
“We’re excited about the negotiations,” Anderson said.
She said to expect an announcement concerning the sale in late January or early February.
