Jim Jensen has dropped out of the race for a seat on the Port of Tacoma Commission, but his name still will appear on August’s primary ballot. Jensen won’t be able to get back the $115,000 of his own money he donated to his campaign, though. But he can spend it in a number of other ways.
Commissioner Connie Bacon’s trip to Cuba is expected to cost an estimated $3,000, according to a memo to port commissioners. Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is touting the trip as a “business and trade delegation” to Cuba.
Northwest Seaport Alliance official, looking back on alliance work, said: “The real accomplishment was to see us rally around the arena issue. … It was a home port (issue for the Port of Seattle), but it was clearly a seaport concern.”
The Port of Tacoma Commission is considering new transparency measures for large projects. Added to the list to receive more public airing include projects that emit more than 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
