A rookie Pacific police officer arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of burglary Thursday afternoon after the man attempted to sell four tires on Craigslist.
The Deer Park, Spokane County, man who was arrested had a long criminal history of burglary and theft with 15 convictions, six of them felonies, according to Pacific police.
After investigating a burglary Monday at a home in Pacific, officer Jerry Schliesman, 23, routinely searched the popular Internet site to see if four Jeep wheels and tires stolen in the burglary matched any of the items for sale, according to Sgt. Jim Pickett.
On Wednesday, Schliesman noticed the tires had recently been posted for sale online.
The officer arranged to meet the seller at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a service station off Highway 410 in Sumner, where he made the arrest without incident, assisted by other Pacific officers, including Pickett.
A search of the seller’s vehicle revealed other property believed stolen, Pickett said.
The case was still being investigated. Pickett said a $2,000 generator stolen from the house in Pacific already had been sold online for $700.
The suspect was a friend of the man whose house was burglarized. Pickett said they are still processing the case and looking for other stolen property from the burglary.
