Pierce County law enforcement agencies were searching Thursday for two police imposters who are kidnapping fast-food managers and forcing them to reopen their stores so they can be robbed.
Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers announced a reward for the capture of the two men Thursday and released surveillance images from one of the robberies.
In incidents in Tacoma, Lakewood and Graham, the fake cops pulled over restaurant managers shortly after their outlets closed. The robbers’ vehicle had red and blue flashing lights, police reported.
In two incidents, the robbers, who have their faces covered with bandannas, approached the manager’s vehicle, pulled out guns and handcuffed the victim.
One robber drove the manager back to the restaurant and, at gunpoint, forced the manager to unlock the doors, open the safe and hand over the cash, police said.
Investigators believe the second robber went to the restaurant and picked up the first robber.
Investigators believe the two are responsible for these kidnapping and robberies:
• 12:40 a.m. Oct. 5 at McDonald’s, 8201 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood.
• 3:15 a.m. Oct. 23 near South 82nd and South Hosmer streets in Tacoma. This was an attempted carjacking. The robbers demanded the driver’s car keys but he refused and ran away. The robbers got back in their own vehicle and fled.
• 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Burger King, 22229 Mountain Highway E., Graham.
The robbers have been in vehicles described as a dark, newer model SUV and an older black Honda with tinted windows. The cars have red and blue lights on the dashboard.
Both robbers are described as thin, white men, 20 to 25 years old and about 5 feet 8. They’ve been seen wearing dark-hooded sweatshirts, dark hats, bandannas and gloves. They’ve been armed with handguns.
Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrests and charges filed in the robberies. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
