Two people were injured when shots broke out during a home-invasion robbery Friday morning in the Hilltop.
Officers arrested two people – including one of the injured – in connection with the home invasion.
The shooting occurred inside a three-story apartment building in the 700 block of South I Street just before 6 a.m., Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reported. According to police, several suspects burst into a second-floor apartment and confronted a 25-year-old man who was sleeping inside. The suspects pistol-whipped and beat the man, Fulghum said.
The man was able to disarm one of the suspects. The suspects started to leave the apartment, Fulghum said.
The beating victim fired two rounds from a shotgun, striking one of the suspects in the upper arm and shoulder area, Fulghum said.
The injured suspect, a 26-year-old man, remained at the apartment. The other suspects fled the apartment. Officers captured and arrested one of the suspects about an hour later, Fulghum said.
Paramedics took the injured suspect to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment. He was under police custody at the hospital, Fulghum said.
The robbery victim was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Fulghum said.
Officers were searching for other suspects in the home-invasion robbery.
