An 83-year-old Lakewood man was out for his daily walk early Monday when a car struck and killed him, police said.
The man was identified as Byung Cho.
He was walking along the edge of 92nd Street South about 7:25 a.m. when a vehicle hit him in the 3100 block near Lorraine Avenue South.
Police said there aren’t sidewalks there, and that the driver, a woman in her 60s, likely didn’t see Cho. She was taken to a hospital with possible heart problems.
The driver is not expected to be arrested, and detectives said she didn’t appear to be speeding or under the influence. She told police she moved right to give an oncoming truck room, which is when she hit Cho.
Cho was pronounced dead at the scene, which is not far from his home.
It took police several hours to identify Cho because he was not carrying identification.
Investigators ask anyone who saw the accident or who was in the area at the time to contact Lakewood police.
