A car hit a 9-year-old boy in a crosswalk Thursday while he was walking to school, Federal Way police said.
The third-grader suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle but was expected to be OK.
He was hit about 8:25 a.m. on First Way South near the King County Library while walking to Panther Lake Elementary School. He was in a marked crosswalk at the time, police said.
A 28-year-old woman driving north didn’t see the flashing lights at the crosswalk, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said.
Never miss a local story.
She said the investigation into the accident was continuing.
“It is safe to say that the driver was at fault, and failed to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk,” Schrock said. “What exactly she will be cited for is not concluded.”
