An elderly bicyclist known to frequently travel the Kapowsin Highway near Graham was killed on the road Wednesday.
The 75-year-old man was riding east on the highway when he was hit by a dump truck going the same direction, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The accident occurred just before noon in the 14100 block of Kapowsin Highway. The man lived in a group home in the 12100 block. His name was not released.
Emergency personnel performed CPR, but the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Troyer said.
The truck driver stopped after the accident and has been cooperating with investigators, Troyer said.
The man, who was on a mountain bike, was a frequent rider in the area.
“Our guys have seen him many times there riding on the road,” Troyer said.
Investigators are looking for witnesses to the accident. The cause is under investigation.
