A semitruck struck and seriously injured 3-year-old in Tacoma’s South End on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The toddler was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital with serious injuries after the 1:45 p.m. collision in the 9500 block of South Steele Street, spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. The girl’s 5-month old sister is also being evaluated by doctors after the incident.
The driver of the semitruck, a man in his 60s, was waiting to enter traffic along Steele Street when a 26-year-old woman was crossing the sidewalk with her two kids, Cool said.
The man did not see them crossing in front of his truck and pulled out into them, hitting all three, Cool said. The woman appears to be OK but the two children were injured.
Steele Street is expected to be closed until about 8 p.m. as police investigate.
