Pierce Transit’s board has voted unanimously to eliminate paper transfer tickets in favor of all-day bus passes.
The change, approved Monday, will take effect Nov. 1.
The all-day passes will cost $5 for adults and $2.50 for youths, seniors and disabled persons. A one-way cash fare for adults with a transfer ticket currently is $2.
The transit system is ending the use of paper transfer tickets to increase fare-box revenue and end abuse among passengers. To prevent abuse, the all-day passes will have a magnetic strip allowing bus access only on that day.

The agency wants to eliminate the problem of transfer tickets being reused by riders looking to avoid paying additional fares.
