Work to repair the state Route 16 overpass at Olympic Drive will start Monday and continue through the end of the year.
A truck whose load was too high hit and damaged the overpass in 2013.
Beginning Monday, motorists will encounter weeknight single-lane closures on west and eastbound state Route 16 approaching Olympic Drive NW, and on Olympic Drive Northwest itself.
For the first few weeks, construction crews will install temporary striping, a guardrail and signs.
Westbound closures are scheduled for 7 p.m.-5 a.m., Monday through Friday. Eastbound closures are scheduled for the same nights between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Olympic Drive will be reduced to two lanes, one lane in each direction, from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.
Between now and the end of the year, the project will involve at least four full overnight closures of westbound and eastbound state Route 16.
Traffic will be kept moving during the full closures by using the Olympic Drive NW off- and on-ramps.
The state Department of Transportation will announce the full closures when they are scheduled.
The Transportation Department is repairing the damaged bridge girder by installing a new one on the westbound half of the bridge.
In addition to restoring the overpass, the department will restripe westbound lanes of state Route 16 to gain just over 2 inches of vertical clearance. New overhead signs will be installed as well.
Transportation Department officials have said they intend to recover repair costs from the company that damaged the overpass.
