Drivers can expect some lane and ramp closures on southbound Interstate 5 this week as state Department of Transportation crews continue work on paving improvement projects in the vicinity of Tumwater Boulevard and Gravelly Lake Drive.
Weather permitting, the closures will take place as follows:
In Thurston County, the Tumwater Boulevard onramp to northbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 19) to 5 a.m. the next day, according to a DOT news release.
Between State Capitol/City Center exit and Tumwater Boulevard, southbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane Monday and Tuesday from 7 p.m.-5 a.m. the following morning.

Motorists should also expect short-term closures of the southbound I-5 onramps and offramps between the State Capitol/City Center exit at Milepost 106 and Tumwater Boulevard at Milepost 101.2 during the same overnight hours Oct. 20-21.
In Pierce County, southbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane between Gravelly Lake Drive and Mounts Road during overnight hours Wednesday through Saturday. Closures will begin about 7 p.m. and end around 5 a.m. each following morning, the news release states.
During the same time frame, drivers will encounter short-duration onramp and offramp closures on southbound I-5 from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. at the following locations:
• Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest.
• Thorne Lane.
• Berkeley Street Southwest.
• Joint Base Lewis-McChord main gate.
• Steilacoom-DuPont Road.
• Center Drive in DuPont.
In the event of inclement weather, the work could be rescheduled for a later date.
