Crews worked along North Union Avenue between North 18th and North 30th streets in Tacoma on Thursday, trimming maple trees and culling dead limbs in preparation for winter storms. Weather permitting, the work will continue today and is expected to continue into next week, according to Tacoma Public Works’ Rae Bailey.
“It’s for the safety of the cars and the health of the trees,” Bailey said.
The goal is to trim all of the trees to about 14 feet above the road.
Bailey said traffic is being routed around the work as the crews move down the road.
No road closures are expected, and there are no plans to remove any trees during the work.
