Caretakers euthanized an arthritic reindeer Wednesday at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
The 15 1/2-year-old reindeer suffered from degenerative arthritis and other age-related ailments, the zoo said, and was having trouble getting around his exhibit.
The herd animals at the facility do not have official names, the zoo said, but caretakers called him Paul.
Staff members treated the arthritis, but he continued to get worse, the zoo said.
Never miss a local story.
One reindeer, 13 1/2 years old, is left in the zoo’s Arctic Tundra exhibit. Staff call her Nova.
