The yellow dresses are out and the smiles are wide — it’s Daffodil season again.
Pierce County’s 24 participating high schools have crowned their Daffodil Festival princesses, but only one will be chosen to reign as queen of the royal court following the coronation ceremony Saturday.
The selection process for each royal court representative started in September.
The students who were selected already participate in a broad range of activities while maintaining a GPA of 3.2 or higher. They’ll add a long list of events, community service and appearances to their commitments, including the annual Grand Floral Parade next month.
Tickets are still available for Saturday’s coronation at The Pantages Theater. Here are the princesses vying for the queen’s crown:
Graham-Kapowsin High School
Parents: Barry and Chris Towns
Activities, honors, interests: Chorale, Rhapsody and cheerleading at G-K; assistant director of the Graham Eagles Cheer Program, singing, snowboarding, and water sports. Last year, she attended Evergreen Girls State government training program.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Central Washington University to pursue a career in elementary education.
Stadium High School
Parents: Tola and Deji Ajibade
Activities, honors, interests: DECA president sophomore and junior year; three-time E. Wesley recipient and choir section leader; public speaking, writing, horseback riding and leading children’s church.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Duke University and then to Johns Hopkins Medical School to pursue career as a pediatric surgeon.
Rogers High School
Parents: Wayne and Cindy Farris
Activities, honors, interests: Choir president, member of Rambassadors, Key Club, jazz choir, leadership and has a letter in community service; teaching and singing at church; and painting.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Seattle Pacific University and get a degree in music education to teach elementary-school music or high-school choir.
Bethel High School
Parents: Scott and Diana Satterlee
Activities, honors, interests: Seniors-at-Large Club; track; four-time recipient of the People’s Choice Award and Student of the Quarter Award; piano, guitar, and volunteering at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park and the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Washington State University for a bachelor’s degree in animal science, then go to veterinary school to become a veterinarian and serve in the Army.
Franklin Pierce High School
Parents: David and Brenda Robbins
Activities, honors, interests: Captain’s Council, cheer captain; letters in cheer and fastpitch; drawing.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Puget Sound in the occupational therapy program. She wants to become an occupational therapist and work in pediatrics.
Wilson High School
Parents: Erin and Curtis Lakin
Activities, honors, interests: Segment director of her school news program; awards in honors biology at the South Sound Regional Science Fair; spending time with friends, family, youth group and kids; church volunteer.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Tacoma Community College and become a fugitive recovery agent and eventually a stay-at-home mom.
White River High School
Parents: Pat Dow and Tracy Rasmussen
Activities, honors, interests: First soprano in chamber choir, three-year letter cheerleader, leadership member and math tutor; singing, drawing, reading and doing creative projects.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Washington State University and major in communications. She hopes to become a flight attendant.
Fife High School

Activities, honors, interests: Varsity soccer and track, member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and elementary school volunteer; exploring, baking, babysitting and staying healthy.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Portland to become a pediatric oncology nurse.
Victoria Ann Tirado
Clover Park High School

Emerald Ridge High School

Orting High School

Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Texas, El Paso, then medical school to pursue career as a physician’s assistant specializing in pediatrics.
Lincoln High School

Activities, honors, interests: Class valedictorian, district board member of the Pacific Northwest Key Club, three-term class president in student leadership, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital volunteer, peer educator for Pierce County Teen Council.
Post-graduation plans: Attend a four-year university to study biology and major in either education or medicine. She wants to be a pediatric surgeon or a high school teacher, then eventually a high school principal.
Sumner High School
Hometown: Bonney Lake
Parents: Chris and Susan Ward
Activities, honors, interests: Two-year Running Start student, three-year participant in the science fair, golf, lacrosse, reading and community service.
Post-graduation plans: She will graduate from high school with her associate’s degree and attend Arizona State University, majoring in psychology and minoring in criminal justice. She wants to become a psychologist in the justice system.
Mount Tahoma High School
Parents: Sandra and Reginald Woods
Activities, honors, interests: Three-year varsity cheerleader, president of Renaissance Leadership class, work study, family time, writing, shopping, attending church.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Puget Sound then the University of Washington Medical School. She would like to do an internship in a developing country, then return to Washington and open a pediatrics practice.
Chief Leschi High School
Hometown: Federal Way
Parents: Major Inskeep and Diana Schooling.
Activities, honors, interests: Cross country, culinary competition, church community service, cooking, baking, babysitting, knitting, reading, writing and camping.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the Culinary Institute of America for the Baking and Pastry Arts program or go to the Oregon Culinary Institute and eventually have a restaurant or a pastry shop.
Washington High School

Activities, honors, interests: Running Start student at Tacoma Community College, a Making a Difference in Community College Bound student, attended Student of Color Conference last year; two-time Elizabeth Wesley Youth Incentive Award recipient, Comcast Certificate of Achievement recipient; cooking, singing, attending church and working with kids.
Post-graduation plans: Major in broadcast journalism in radio-television and minor in political science or business to become a newscaster or college professor.
Cascade Christian High School

Puyallup High School

Post-graduation plans: Attend Grand Canyon University and major in sports management and minor in marketing. She wants to work for a professional sports team or enter sports broadcasting.
Curtis High School

Activities, honors, interests: Class treasurer for four years, leadership, two-time captain of the varsity golf team, fastpitch, Harry Potter fanatic, reading.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Portland to become an environmental engineer, then pursue a doctorate to become a professor.
Bonney Lake High School

Activities, honors, interests: Associated Student Body officer for four years, International Club, Panther Crew, community service, attending church, hockey, soccer, working out and running.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Washington in Seattle and to become a nurse anesthetist and later become an anesthesiologist.
Spanaway Lake High School

Activities, honors, interests: President of National Honor Society, member of Link Crew, lettered in volleyball, camping and spending time with family.
Post-graduation plans: Attend the University of Portland and then medical school to become a pediatric neurologist.
Lakes High School

Activities, honors, interests: Historian in National Honor Society, dance team co-captain, section leader in audition choir, mentor to incoming freshmen; accumulated five letters in varsity swim and dance team; spending time with her family and teaching Sunday school.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication in hopes of becoming a news anchor. Her dream is to swim in every ocean on the planet.
Eatonville High School

Activities, honors, interests: School board’s student representative, attended Evergreen Girls State government training program; South Puget Sound Outstanding Junior, first place in Eatonville High School’s “Poetry Out Loud” , varsity letter in Key Club and in community service; piano, tennis, reading, horseback riding, and volunteering at Changing Rein Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies.
Post-graduation plans: Attend a four-year university and go into chemistry or the pharmaceutical industry.
Foss High School
Parents: Sean and Monica Ripley
Activities, honors, interests: International Baccalaureate and Running Start student, four years on the water polo and varsity swim teams, of which she is captain this year; Swim Athlete of the Year and most valuable player, twice awarded the Falcon spirit award; watching movies, reading, memorizing random facts and movie quotes.
Post-graduation plans: Attend Brigham Young University in Idaho to major in business and minor in criminology. She hopes to work in law enforcement, but would also love to become a homemaker.
