An 18-year-old Orting man was killed Thursday morning when his car spun in front of an oncoming pickup in Buckley, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Alexander Normet was running late for work about 6:50 a.m. when he took a corner on state Route 162 (Pioneer Way East) too quickly on a rain-slick road, Trooper Todd Bartolac said. He came around the corner near Mundy Loss Road, slid around a guardrail and spun back into the road. The pickup then hit the driver’s side of Normet’s car, which then rolled onto its side.
Normet was pronounced dead at the scene.
“What it looks like is he was driving way too fast to get to work and lost control of his car,” Bartolac said.

The driver of the pickup suffered a cut lip and minor burns from the truck’s air bag, Bartolac said.
A toxicology report on Normet is pending, Bartolac said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
