Jay Thomas is the new interim executive director of Peace Community Center in Tacoma.
The center, an outreach of Peace Lutheran Church, has been serving the Hilltop community since 2001 with education and youth programs.
Thomas, who starts full time Tuesday, comes to Peace Community Center from Associated Ministries. He has previously worked for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the YMCA of Greater Seattle and United Way of Pierce County.
Thomas replaces Bill Hanawalt, who had served as center director since its inception and who earlier this year was honored at a White House ceremony recognizing Peace Community Center’s summer programs.
Never miss a local story.
Hanawalt resigned from the director’s post, stating in his resignation message that he wants to invest more time in his family and “discern my future professional path.”
