Gig Harbor residents Diane Stefanowicz and Robin Saathoff recently created a clothing line called Girl by RODI wear. The premise of the clothing line focuses on girls being nice to each other, and it's about starting the conversation about it. It's aimed at teenagers and younger mothers.
The Key Peninsula Historical Society now owns the Vaughn Library Hall and is restoring the structure, since it was placed on the Pierce County register of historic buildings. The community center was built in 1893.
Your Daily Hello is a web-based service started by two Lakebay women, Lori Deacon and Leah Perfect, that checks in on members daily via email. If they do not get a response within 24 hours, a text is sent, and then a phone call. If the member doesn’t pick up, the service calls the fire department or police to make a wellness check.
Pierce County officer Jeff Papen won the Washington State School Safety Resource Officer of the Year Award. Papen has worked as a resource officer for ten years. He works as a resource officer at the Puyallup School District.
Rachel Velez took over the concession stand at Volunteer Park on the Key Peninsula in March 2017 to sell burgers, hotdogs, and fries. Velez said she hopes to stay open long enough to serve up specials of food from the south, mainly chicken.
