Mary Mossop didn’t expect many people at her birthday party, but guests stopped by in droves to mark a big one.
Mossop celebrated her 105th birthday at Brookdale Harbor Bay. Mossop’s real birthday was Saturday but she got to have a big party with cake friends, guests and family on Thursday.
Mossop has lived at Brookdale for a year. She is originally from Omak, where she grew up on an apple orchard, and said she’d like to go back and see it someday.
She worked in the hardwood and lumber business and remembers it fondly.
Never miss a local story.
“It was a good business,” she said.
A lot has changed in the past 105 years, but Mossop thinks the changes have been good.
Her big birthday meant a lot of candles, so a few firefighters stopped by with an extinguisher to make sure the flames didn’t get out of hand.
Mayor Jill Guernsey also stopped by to wish Mossop a happy birthday and share a slice of cake with all the partygoers in the Brookdale dining area.
Now at 105, she has a birthday wish: She said she’d like the to change the calendar to always read the same year.
