The Gig Harbor Arts Center Alliance will host its major fundraiser, “An Evening of ExtraOARinary Delights,” at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. The event is raising funds to cover costs of a feasibility study for a regional arts center to be built near the Gig Harbor YMCA.
The center will serve the peninsula communities with facilities for a wide variety of performing and visual arts, provide studios and education space and add a unique dimension to the quality of life, said Jonathan Bill, Alliance Board president.
Plans for the proposed center can be viewed at gigharborartscenter.org.
The event will include dinner, a choice of salmon or vegetarian pasta, an auction of contributed items, and the main feature, large boat oars turned into unique art pieces by a variety of area artists. The oars are currently on display at the Harbor History Museum.
Seats, which cost $35, must be purchased in advance via credit card or check by calling Bill at 253-549-8668. To purchase via check, send payment to 9501 159th St NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98329. People can also view the project at the group’s Facebook page, or contact Merrie Reardon, whose contact info is also on the website.
“Cap off your day at the Maritime Gig Festival by joining us for dinner and fun,” said Alliance Vice President Mark Hoppen.
