Reid Ekberg, a Gig Harbor resident and fourth generation insurance agent, has been elected president of Pilkey-Hopping & Ekberg, Inc., an insurance brokerage firm based in Tacoma.
Ekberg, who serves as chairman of the Gig Harbor Planning Commission, has been with the firm since 2008 and was recently honored in the Business Examiner in their “40 under Forty” award.
His most recent position with the firm was vice president and commercial department manager. His election as president was effective Sept. 1.
Ekberg began his career in Seattle, at Safeco, where he worked as a claims adjuster.
He is the great-grandson of Frank Ekberg, who founded Frank Ekberg & Co. in Tacoma in 1896, and the great-great-grandson of W.P. Hopping, who founded Hopping Insurance in Tacoma in 1902.
Steve Ekberg, the retiring president, will remain as an associate at the firm and a member of the board.
