More than $24,000 in scholarship awards are available for Gig Harbor area women looking to return to school.
The scholarships are offered by the Minerva Scholarship Fund from the Gig Harbor Branch of the American Association of University Women.
Founded in 1991, the Minerva Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly $200,000 to 150 local women. To be eligible for a scholarship a woman must meet the following criteria:
▪ Live in the Peninsula School District and been a resident for at least one year
▪ Be returning to school to complete her education
▪ Have a demonstrated need for financial assistance to complete her education
▪ Have a plan of action and a timeline for completion of her educational program
Minerva scholarships may be used to complete a vocational program, a two-year degree from a community college, a four-year college or university degree or a graduate level program. Students may attend school full- or part-time, but must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution.
The Minerva Scholarship Fund attempts to provide ongoing assistance to scholarship recipients who are making satisfactory progress toward completing their educational goals.
A unique feature of the Minerva Scholarship Fund is the Named Scholarship Program, which will establish a scholarship named in honor or memory of a person or group for a cumulative donation of $10,000 minimum.
The scholarship fund currently has 16 named scholarships in addition to the general Minerva Scholarship Fund. An updated application must be provided yearly by students seeking a scholarship award.
Completed application packets, including transcripts and recommendations, are due by July 1.
Minerva is a 501(c)(3) publicly support organization and donations are tax deductible.
