After celebrating the ten-year anniversary of opening its doors earlier this year, Harbor Place at Cottesmore in Gig Harbor recently added one more milestone to the list.
On May 12 in Aurora, Colorado during Century Park’s Annual Management Meeting, Harbor Place at Cottesmore was named the company’s Assisted Living Facility of the Year for 2016. With headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, Century Park Associates manages more than 40 senior living communities in 20 states.
Nicole Roberts, executive director at Harbor Place, was on hand to accept the award.
“It was quite an honor to win this award. We work very hard to provide great service to our residents,” said Roberts, who couldn’t wait to return to Gig Harbor to share the award with her entire team. “At the end of the day, it’s all about the residents. Our team refers to ourselves as the Harbor Place Family.”
Harbor Place at Cottesmore has earned deficiency-free surveys for the last four years. The award also acknowledged Harbor Place’s operational success, leadership retention and true commitment to quality and the community.
Harbor Place just celebrated its ten-year anniversary. Since 2006, it has offered independent and assisted living for its residents.
“If folks are living in an independent retirement apartment and they find they need assisted living services, we bring those services to them. They don’t have to move apartments,” Roberts said.
Harbor Place offers daily activities for residents, and recently hosted its very own senior prom.
“We had a dance and a disc jockey and took photos,” Roberts said.
With amenities such as indoor pool and hot tub, a fitness room, beauty salon and spa, Bistro coffee shop, computer room, pool and billiard room, Sunday services and weekly Bible studies, there are endless activities for residents. A continuous 24-hour response system is also provided.
Harbor Place at Cottesmore is part of Life Care Centers of America, Century Park Associates’ sister company.
Roberts earned a master’s degree in social work and said she has always loved working with seniors.
“Growing up, I was fortunate enough to live near both sets of my grandparents. They were always involved with us and I helped them as well,” she said, adding how important it is for seniors to have a life plan. “If you wait for a medical crisis to happen, that is just one more thing to add to the chaos.”
Roberts clearly loves her job and praises her staff.
“We have an amazing staff here. I can’t say enough about the people who work here,” she said. “This honor is not for me, but everyone. We have a team.”
