Dr. Cathy Schneider will present “Radical Grace: Loving Our Neighbors with Alzheimer’s” on May 2 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 7701 Skansie Avenue, Gig Harbor. Her discussions will address concerns by those who have been or will be touched by loved ones with Alzheimer’s and advanced dementia.
Schneider, a longtime resident and educator in Gig Harbor, is a more recent graduate of the San Francisco Theological Seminary who began her longtime ministry to Alzheimer’s patients and others with memory issues while serving an internship for her master’s in Divinity degree. Her presentation will offer practical suggestions for how to communicate to those with advanced dementia and will offer hopeful ways to engage them in our church and social lives.
“Who cares for the caregiver” is an important part of Schneider’s program. It ties in with her consultant work to help families determine how long a memory-impaired loved one can stay at home, and when it is time to bring in outside caregivers.
There is no charge to attend this event, which is sponsored by St. John’s Parish Nurse Program. Free-will donations will be accepted.
