Key Peninsula Veterans invite the public to the annual Aisle of Honor Memorial Day ceremony at Vaughn Cemetery, set for May 24.
At the 22nd annual event, 336 flags from fallen veterans of wars from the American Revolution until today are displayed. They are erected annually by veterans and assisted by Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 220, Cub Scouts of Pack 222 and the Key Peninsula Girl Scouts. A moving commemorative ceremony will be held at the facility’s Veterans’ Memorial. The Olympia Scottish Pipers will open the ceremonies.
There will also be readings of the names of veterans whose flags are on display. Keynote speaker for the event is retired Brig. Gen. Stan Flemming. The Key Singers will provide appropriate Memorial Day music. An Honor Guard from Joint Base Lewis McChord will present the colors and fire a salute to the fallen. The ceremonies begin at 1 p.m.
There is ample parking at Vaughn Elementary School with a free Bus Connect shuttle bus to the ceremonies.
