Downtown Gig Harbor will be home to a new farmers market this summer.
The new Waterfront Farmers Market will open for business June 4 at Skansie Brothers Park in the downtown waterfront. The market will run weekly from 3 to 7 p.m. through Sept. 24.
The new market is a project of the nonprofit Downtown Waterfront Alliance. It is supported by community partners including the City of Gig Harbor. The new model will provide access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, fish and other local products, while creating a sense of community and helping to revitalize the waterfront district.
According to Kathleen Rose, the market’s newly appointed manager, the fundamental principles will be based on sustainability and environmentally safe practices.
“I am honored to be a part of this new Waterfront Farmers Market. It will be a work in progress to bring something exceptional and unique to the waterfront,” she said.
