A new shuttle will connect peninsula residents to Chambers Bay during the U.S. Open.
The U.S. Open express shuttle is sponsored by the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce, which has been working for the past year on how to get Gig Harbor involved with the tournament.
The round-trip service costs $30 per rider and runs from June 15 to 21. Space is limited to 144 passengers a day.
The shuttle will leave from the Chamber office, located at 3125 Judson Street.
As of Monday afternoon, 1,000 people had signed up for the shuttle, according to Al Abbott, who has worked on the project with the Chamber.
While promoting the shuttle, the Chamber reached out to golf courses from Gig Harbor up to Port Angeles, Abbott said.
Abbott, along with city tourism director Karen Scott, announced the shuttle to the City Council at its Monday night meeting.
Council member Michael Perrow said that he was pleased the project come together.
