You know it’s going to be a fun event when the Sea Gals are scheduled to make an appearance.
But the Sea Gals aren’t the only attraction at the third annual Salute to the Troops event on Thursday (Aug. 13).
Along with the Seattle Seahawks cheerleaders, the Daffodil Princesses will greeting fans and the U.S. military will provide displays of military trucks, vehicles and equipment.
The Salute to the Troops is the major family event sponsored by the Captain Meriwether Lewis Puyallup Subchapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).
Never miss a local story.
More than 2,500 people expected to attend this year’s event, according to Leslie LaCaze, subchapter president.
The free event is open to the public and will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 13) at Pioneer Park in Puyallup.
Special prize baskets will be presented to two soldiers who competed in Hawaii for Warrior of the Year. The event will also include a basketball tournament, pie jousting, a bounce house, free food and prize drawings for themed and specialized baskets.
Concerts in the Park will immediately follow the event and the adjacent spray park will be open throughout the day.
The AUSA Puyallup-Sumner Subchapter is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for military families. The Salute to the Troops is its major family event and all proceeds will go to benefit soldiers and their families.
“This is going to be a fun event,” LeCaze said. “We’re excited.”
