The 110,000-square-foot Gordon Family YMCA, now under construction and slated to open in Sumner later this summer, will be helped further by a $2 million earmark in the state capital budget, approved June 30 by the Washington State Legislature.
Gov. Jay Inslee signed the capital budget into law on July 1. The $2 million was awarded through the state’s Department of Commerce Building Communities Fund grant program. The state grant boosts the YMCA’s fundraising total to $16,432,918. The total project cost is $35 million.
“This generous investment in the Gordon Family YMCA will pay dividends to the community for years to come,” said Bob Ecklund, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
