Update as of 3:24 p.m.: Police said it was a paperweight, not a grenade, that was thrown from a car window. South Yakima Avenue has reopened.
Initial post: A stretch of a Tacoma road was cordoned off Friday after police received a report that someone may have thrown a grenade out of a car window.
Officers were called about 12:30 p.m. to South Yakima Avenue and closed off the road between South 19th and South 21st streets.
A bomb squad responded and is investigating the possible explosive device.
