A group of friends were celebrating a birthday in Prosser over the weekend when a dispute broke out that left a Buckley woman dead, police say.
The victim, identified as Amanda L. Hill, 35, was shot during a fight between her and her friend.
Deputies say they arrested 36-year-old Amy S. Brown on suspicion of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
After getting reports of shots fired early Saturday morning, deputies and Prosser police arrived minutes later to the 14000 block of North River Road.
They found Brown holding Hill, who was bleeding but not breathing.
Officers attempted CPR, but Hill was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say they determined she had been shot with a handgun during a fight between the two women. It’s unclear what prompted the dispute.
Benton County Sheriff Jerry Hatcher described Hill and Brown as “best friends.”
