An 89-year-old Auburn woman escaped her burning mobile home Thursday morning, according to Valley Regional Fire Authority.
Several people called 911 just before 7 a.m. to report the blaze in the River Mobile Estates at 3611 I St. NE. A neighbor who was taking out his trash noticed the fire and banged on the woman’s door to alert her and help her to safety.
Firefighters said heavy black smoke and flames could be seen from the double-wide home when they arrived. The fire was quickly extinguished but the home is a total loss. Damages are estimated at $100,000.
The woman will be staying with family members, the department said.
The fire started in the carport and extended to the home, investigators said. A cause has not yet been determined.
