Officials on Wednesday briefly locked down Carson Elementary School in South Hill as a precaution while Pierce County sheriff’s deputies searched for a suspect nearby, the Puyallup School District said.
A resident called 911 to report someone with a gun nearby.
When sheriff’s deputies searched the area, they found the person was carrying a BB gun in the neighborhood, and had not been doing anything wrong, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The school district said the lockdown lasted 20 minutes.

There was no threat to students or staff members, and the person was not on school property at 8615 184th St. E., the district said in a release.
