SWAT team members responded to a man reported to have a gun in a wooded area Sunday along state Route 512 in Puyallup.
Police responded at 7:45 p.m. to a call about a man with a firearm in front of a restaurant near South Hill Park Drive and 31st Avenue Southwest, Puyallup police spokesman Scott Engle said.
The man took off into the nearby woods along the highway when officers arrived, he said
The Pierce County Metro Special Weapons and Tactics Team responded, and the agencies involved believed they had the man contained in an area of the woods, Engle said about 10 p.m.

Police evacuated several businesses during the search.
It didn’t appear the man had fired the weapon at any point, Engle said.
Police believed the man had been involved in a domestic incident in the parking lot of the restaurant, but did not immediately have further details about what that was as they investigated.
Officers asked drivers to avoid the area as they responded.
