A driver crashed into a pizza sign during a police chase early Monday, during a pursuit that started when the suspect made an illegal U-turn in a stolen vehicle, Fircrest police chief John Cheesman said.
A Fircrest officer tried to stop the black 1991 BMW shortly after midnight when it made the illegal turn while headed east on South 19th Street near Del Monte Avenue, Cheesman said.
The officer chased the car, which police learned was stolen from King County, until it crashed into the sign outside the University Place Round Table Pizza at 7011 27th St. W. about 10 minutes later, Cheesman said.
He said the suspect and a passenger took off on foot, and a Tacoma police dog tracked both of them down to the bed of a pickup truck.
Never miss a local story.
Police took the driver to the hospital for minor pain from the crash, then booked him into jail, Cheesman said, and officers released the passenger pending investigation.
