A man died after the car he was driving left the road and plunged into Alder Lake Tuesday night, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.
Another driver called 911 after seeing the vehicle partially submerged about 7:20 p.m. near National Park Highway and Alder Cutoff Road East, south of Eatonville.
Divers, sheriff’s deputies and Eatonville fire crews helped pull the man from the water and tried to save him, but he died at the scene, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
No one else was in the 2010 Jeep.

Officials did not immediately release the man’s name. He appeared to be in his 50s or 60s, according to the sheriff’s department.
Investigators didn’t yet know what caused the car to leave the highway, but Troyer said icy roads may have been a factor.
