The wreck happened near state Route 167, also known as River Road, and Pioneer Way East, Washington State Patrol trooper Guy Gill said shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Tacoma Fire said the patients were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Gill said the driver who caused the wreck and two people in the first vehicle hit were among those hurt.
