An alleged prostitute brought her three children to a Tacoma motel while she met with customers, one of whom turned out to be an undercover cop.
Shaneen Stanford, 26, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to prostitution and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She was ordered jailed in lieu of $1,000 bail.
Darius Jordan, who allegedly waited in the car at the motel to be a lookout and provide security, pleaded not guilty to second-degree promoting prostitution. Jordan, 30, was held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
The pair were arrested Friday after Lakewood police conducted an undercover sting for ads posted on Backpage.com.
An undercover officer arranged to meet Stanford at the motel and arrested her after she tried to initiate sex for money, according to charging papers. Inside the motel room were Stanford’s three children, ages 5 to 11.
Police also found unidentified pills.
“Stanford said she usually doesn’t bring her children with her during ‘dates’ but her mother had to work today so she couldn’t watch them,” records show.
Stanford allegedly told police she turned to prostitution so she could pay her bills.
She has no prior charges in Pierce County.
