A 21-year-old Parkland man suspected of stabbing his neighbor to death during a fight was released from jail Wednesday.
Pierce County prosecutors declined to file charges, saying they needed further investigation before deciding whether to charge him with second-degree murder.
The News Tribune is not naming the man because he has not been criminally charged.
He is accused of stabbing Dan Hoglund, 50, with a pocketknife several times during a confrontation Monday over noise levels in their apartment building.
Sheriff’s detectives said the man was annoyed that Hoglund was loudly arguing with another man in his third-story apartment so he went upstairs to confront Hoglund.
The argument turned physical and the man stabbed Hoglund in the hallway before returning to his home to clean up, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
When deputies responded to the University Park apartments in the 400 block of Wheeler Street South, they found Hoglund dead.
