A man suspected of killing a 45-year-old woman on the streets of Tacoma nearly nine years ago pleaded not guilty Thursday in Pierce County Superior Court.
Brandon Lee Farmer is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 27, 2006, shooting death of Velma Tirado, 45.
Pierce County prosecutors contend Farmer, 29, hired Tirado to perform a sex act on him and then shot her in the head afterward.
The case went uncharged until November when a man who allegedly was with Farmer that night contacted police to tell them what he knew, court records show.
Never miss a local story.
Farmer, who had been in custody in West Virginia on unrelated charges, was extradited to Pierce County this week for arraignment.
