Morning traffic came to a halt Tuesday after a stolen van crashed near the Sounder commuter tracks in Sumner.
King County sheriff’s deputies chased a suspected burglar in the stolen van into Sumner about 5 a.m., and the van crashed near Zhender Street and Wood Avenue.
The suspect broke into an SUV and tried to flee but crashed the second vehicle near the Sounder commuter train tracks and ran away.
The train tracks were not affected by the crash but it was close enough that the trains and nearby traffic had to be stopped, sheriff’s spokesman BJ Myers said.
No injuries were reported, and the suspect was not arrested.
The second crash stalled the 1500 train from Lakewood to Seattle and also stalled the 1501, 1502 and 1512 trains.
