A teenager pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder in the death of a Tacoma man who was robbed and shot in the garage of his condominium complex two years ago.
Andrew James Boyd, 19, was set to go to trial when he decided instead to plead guilty. He is to be sentenced Wednesday.
Pierce County prosecutors allged Boyd was one of two young men who confronted Lawrence Howse in the basement garage of the Sky Terrace condominiums on Sept. 5, 2013.
They robbed Howse of his wallet and cellphone, and one of them shot him when he refused to take off his pants as they’d directed, court records show.
Which one pulled the trigger is unclear, but under Washington law both are responsible for the murder of Howse, who was 54 and the father of two sons.
Boyd’s co-defendant, Jeremy Bennett, pleaded guilty to murder in November and was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
