A Parkland apartment tenant fatally shot a 19-year-old man breaking into his unit Wednesday night, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
Troyer gave this account:
About 9:40 p.m., the 19-year-old, known to the apartment tenant at the Concordia Arms Apartments at 114 129th St. S., stopped by and wanted to come inside.
The tenant told investigators the teenager threatened to shoot up the apartment and beat the resident.
The tenant shut the door and locked it, and the teenager kicked and pounded on the door and a window. The resident grabbed his firearm and warned the 19-year-old to leave.
The teenager forced the door open, and was in the doorway with six other people, when the tenant fired once, hitting the teenager in the chest. The 19-year-old died at the scene.
The shooter, in his mid to late 20s, was cooperating with investigators.
