A Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive caught fire Thursday as it was helping move a train through Puyallup, the railroad reported Friday.
There were no injuries.
The locomotive was at the end of a fully load grain train, pushing it while other engines at the front pulled, when leaking oilignited about 7 p.m., said Gus Melonas, a BNSF spokesman.
The train was bound for Seattle from the Midwest, Melonas said.
Never miss a local story.
The damaged locomotive was hauled to an Auburn yard to be evaluated and ultimately will be sent to Montana for repairs, Melonas said.
