A mother and her three children safely escaped a fire that gutted their Spanaway house on Thursday, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.
Firefighters were called about 7 a.m. to the 1800 block of 165th Street Court East and found the two-story home engulfed in flames.
A smoke alarm alerted a woman sleeping inside the house to the fire. She rounded up three children aged 1, 8 and 10.
“She was able to get up and get them out in time,” Central Pierce spokesman Guy Overby said.
Two dogs died in the fire and three cats were missing after the fire.
A cause has not been determined.
