Two Auburn police officers were injured Saturday while monitoring traffic in a parking lot near the Muckleshoot fireworks stands.
Hundreds of people were in the area buying fireworks and discharging them legally in the designated area near the fireworks stands. The parking lot near the area was reportedly very busy and firework discharging in that area was prohibited.
At approximately 10 p.m. a large explosion went off right in front of the two officers, causing one to be blown backwards and suffer temporary hearing loss.
The second officer suffered several small burns on his body and uniform.

The officers were transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center and were treated and released.
The Auburn Police Department believes that the explosion was intentionally directed toward the officers.
Anyone with any information about who may have thrown or fired the device is asked to call the Auburn Police Tip line at 253-288-7403 or to call 911.
