A 20-year-old man charged in the beating death of a friend two years ago led investigators Tuesday to the man’s remains in a wooded area of Puyallup.
As part of a plea deal, Michael Breer agreed to give Pierce County sheriff’s detectives a full confession and lead them to where he hid the body of 18-year-old Justin Morris in July of 2013.
Breer did so Tuesday, and detectives found Morris’ remains beside a pond in a deeply wooded area near Emerald Ridge High School.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to confirm the bones belong to Morris.
Breer is expect to plead guilty Thursday to second-degree murder.
Breer initially was charged with first-degree murder and 11 child pornography counts. As part of the deal, prosecutors will drop the child porn charges and amend the murder charge, which means Breer would serve about 18 years in prison.
Prosecutors allege Breer beat Morris to death with two iron skillets and a golf club. No motive was ever released but Breer allegedly said “something” happened with Morris and claimed his friend came at him with a knife.
Morris had been staying with Breer and Breer’s mother, according to charging papers.
Blood spatter was found on two walls, two couches and the floor of Breer’s home. Morris likely was sitting on one of the couches when he was hit from behind and then slumped onto the carpet while being beaten, according to court records.
Detectives discovered cleaning supplies and a carpet-cleaning machine in Breer’s home and a shovel and bleach in the back of Breer’s truck. Also found were bloody clothing with Morris’ wallet.
Breer asked his uncle to dispose of a body but the uncle declined, first suggesting Breer burn and bury the body, according to court records.
Breer allegedly went to a friend’s house to tell him he’d killed Morris and ask for help disposing of the body.
The friend declined but went to Breer’s house, where he told investigators he saw a lot of blood and a body wrapped in a blanket with the head covered by a garbage bag.
The friend called 911 on July 13, 2013.
