A 46-year-old Pierce County man armed with two kitchen knives was apprehended by a Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team Friday evening on Harstine Island.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary and robbery, after being tracked four miles through timber lands, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The man is suspected of burglarizing a home on South Island Drive. A 17-year-old male resident returned home from school and found an unknown man in his living room who was armed with a thick-bladed butcher knife and a steak knife.
The suspect reportedly threatened the resident, demanding money and ordering him not to call 911. The suspect ran past the resident, out the back door of the home and into a nearby wooded area, the release said.
Deputies tracked the suspect with the K-9 team and located the suspect hiding in brush along a dirt road. Two knives were found on the suspect. The knives, along with other property the suspect had, were identified by the homeowner as stolen from his residence.
During the suspect’s arrest, he was found to have been reported missing last Wednesday from Pierce County. He was transported to the Mason County jail.
