A 22-year-old Tacoma man is jailed on $1 million bail after pleading not guilty to a drive-by shooting that seriously injured another man.
Yahdriel Jones was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Witnesses identified him as the shooter in Saturday’s confrontation at an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Mason Loop Road.
Charging papers give this account:
Men from two different cars began arguing, and Jones eventually pulled out a handgun and opened fire into the other vehicle.
A mother driving by with four children in her car had a window shattered by a bullet. Rounds also struck numerous vehicles in the parking lot and at least two apartment units.
Both cars sped away immediately after the gunshots.
The victim drove himself to Allenmore Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
He told detectives he doesn’t know who shot him and that he was sitting in his car rolling a marijuana joint when he was struck.
Police believe the shooting was gang-related.
Jones is charged with second-degree assault in an unrelated case and has a prior conviction for first-degree theft. He is prohibited from having weapons in his possession.
