Orting Schools Superintendent Michelle Curry withdrew her name Saturday from a list of three finalists for the superintendent’s job in Longview, in Southwest Washington.
Curry, who was one of three finalists for the Longview position, said Monday that recent news about the health of elderly family members made her reluctant to leave the area.
“We decided it wasn’t a good time to make a move,” Curry said. “We are going to stay put.”
She said she looks forward to continuing her work in Orting, where she has been superintendent since 2009.
In 2012, Curry was one of six semi-finalists for superintendent of the year for the National Association of School Superintendents. In 2014, Orting High School was named a school of distinction for posting five-year improvements in state test scores.
